and more birds...

Finding that birds can be quite inspirational... not clear why right now but i'm having some fun ascribing various possible personalities to each one as I play with the layout.

Another Oil Change for Valentine's Day

Take a Word Challenge - "hearts"

Having recently watched "Swing Time", the song "A Fine Romance" seemed like it could surely inspire an interesting layout. I racked my memory for a true situation to inspire a page to go along with the song, of sorts. I decided to not get into the whole story behind this page, but it is a true story: on more than one occasion, I'd been offered an oil change for my car instead of dinner or flowers, or card, or candy for Valentine's Day. Silly boys!  Enjoy the song below, too!  :)

Red Birds in Love

Yesterday, it was especially important for me to create, beauty if possible, but definitely create...to counter the evil and destruction seen in the news. So, the fragility of the bird, symbolic love, lightness of heart in a most child-like way, and strong colors of invitation to engage in the purity of heart intended in this piece...

Some day, when I'm awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you...
And the way you look tonight.

Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.

With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.

Lovely ... Never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.

Just the way you look tonight.

"The Way You Look Tonight" is a song featured in the film Swing Time, originally performed by Fred Astaire.  It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1936. In 2004 the Astaire version finished at #43 in AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.
The song was sung to Ginger Rogers as Penelope "Penny" Carroll by Astaire in character as John "Lucky" Garnett, while Penny was busy washing her hair in an adjacent room, and feeling anything but beautiful at the time.

The song was written by Jerome Kern with lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and has become a standard. Fields later remarked, "The first time Jerry played that melody for me I went out and started to cry. The release absolutely killed me. I couldn't stop, it was so beautiful."

Cougar Inside
Take a Word Challenge: Woman

Whether you take this as a woman's desire for younger men or as woman having a deep protective calling of a wild cat, be it lion or cougar or tiger, or any other of the wild beasts we can relate to on this subject, I think we keep these passions well hidden on a daily basis, hence the zipper. It was fun!

Traveling Hen

Just playing with my new grunge skills, attempting a water scene and anxious to see what would come out. It's playful, yet not really, but then again...

She just may be a "hanger"...

The Gift of Christmas

Created for the Mischief Circus December Postcard Challenge. I hesitate to say too much about this layout...it's one of those that speaks to your heart, how you perceive Christmas... I see it as a celebration of divine love, a time when we remind each other of the birth of the divine embodiment of pure love and all it brings. Nature never loses its proximity to God... the inability to maintain it is a frailty owned by humans alone.

Fortune favors the brave

The idea for this layout is taken from Trudi Sissons aka two dresses studio, a true artist that I've admired for a few years. No one has an eye like hers, that I've seen anyway. Recently she did such an emotive layout that that I could not get out of my mind for several days. Here it is:

In trying to find why this was striking me, I decided to let the concept run freely in the creative realm to see what came out...

Comparatively, aside from my layout being decidedly amateurish, I was struck by how unable I was to be darker, given the central image in the piece. I interpret this as my personal ordeals being seemingly bolstered with colors of life. How fortunate, I mused, and thus the Latin phrase place on the banner: FORTIS FORTUNA ADIVAT, translated roughly to "fortune favors the brave", or bold. And indeed, bravery has been a frequent companion...

I know that there are many people with personal struggles, and some day my "colors" may fail, and indeed some days it seems they are no where to be found, but they must be there. My wish and hope is for my flora and fauna photography and digital compositions to brighten and lighten hearts making someone's day better...

Dream is back!

My print is back and I am pleased with the framing... the daylight is short this time of year and my den walls are painted deeply so the photo is not high quality.  She is nonetheless beautiful on my wall! Thanx again to Beth Conklin of Here on Earth digital art and photography!!

Neela and the Flower Vendor

A Christmas layout just because 'tis the season!

Neela is a Hindi name meaning "sapphire blue" which is interesting because I did the layout and gave her a blue scarf long before I named the horse. And the name i just picked out of the sky, maybe just like the color...

Blackbird

"Blackbird"

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
