Traveling Hen
Just playing with my new grunge skills, attempting a water scene and anxious to see what would come out. It's playful, yet not really, but then again... She just may be a "hanger"... To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Maybe Next Year - Take a Word Challenge This is about as "red and green" as I'm gonna get this year...another holiday orphaned...and though I thought I was a good girl, well, maybe next year...

Created for the Mischief Circus December Postcard Challenge. I hesitate to say too much about this layout...it's one of those that speaks to your heart, how you perceive Christmas... I see it as a celebration of divine love, a time when we remind each other of the birth of the divine embodiment of pure love and all it brings. Nature never loses its proximity to God... the inability to maintain it is a frailty owned by humans alone.

The idea for this layout is taken from Trudi Sissons aka two dresses studio, a true artist that I've admired for a few years. No one has an eye like hers, that I've seen anyway. Recently she did such an emotive layout that that I could not get out of my mind for several days. Here it is:
In trying to find why this was striking me, I decided to let the concept run freely in the creative realm to see what came out... Comparatively, aside from my layout being decidedly amateurish, I was struck by how unable I was to be darker, given the central image in the piece. I interpret this as my personal ordeals being seemingly bolstered with colors of life. How fortunate, I mused, and thus the Latin phrase place on the banner: FORTIS FORTUNA ADIVAT, translated roughly to "fortune favors the brave", or bold. And indeed, bravery has been a frequent companion...
I know that there are many people with personal struggles, and some day my "colors" may fail, and indeed some days it seems they are no where to be found, but they must be there. My wish and hope is for my flora and fauna photography and digital compositions to brighten and lighten hearts making someone's day better...

Dream is back!
My print is back and I am pleased with the framing... the daylight is short this time of year and my den walls are painted deeply so the photo is not high quality. She is nonetheless beautiful on my wall! Thanx again to Beth Conklin of Here on Earth digital art and photography!!

Neela and the Flower Vendor A Christmas layout just because 'tis the season! Neela is a Hindi name meaning "sapphire blue" which is interesting because I did the layout and gave her a blue scarf long before I named the horse. And the name i just picked out of the sky, maybe just like the color...

Imagine
I was playing with Rebecca's new doll and came up with several options. In this one I imagine the sunshine of her hair bursting though the morning fog and glimpses of the periwinkle sky peeking through a smattering of willowy clouds, frosty snow melting on the green grass...only 4 months before the crocus pop!

Desire
I found this interesting quote by Charlie Chaplin, from his autobiography, which read: "What do you wanting meaning for? Life is about desire, not meaning." Still chewing on that one, but it has enough merit for it's thought-provoking nature. I actually learned a lot about Chaplin last week, and his family. Always on the hunt :)

Dream
I'm ecstatic! my art from Beth aka Here On Earth came in the mail today and we are going for framing tomorrow. The piece is so very beautiful and I have the perfect place for it!
I'm a Sci Fi fan so naturally when I found a fabulous original art teletransporter, aka teleportation, room by Starstation which he calls "Energize" , I could not pass up using it for the challenge.

My favorite passage from Isaac Asimov for over 40 years:
Second Foundation
Chapter 8: Seldon's Plan
"Down- down- the results can be followed; and all the suffering that humanity ever knew can be traced to the one fact that no man in the history of the Galaxy, ...could really understand one another. Every human being lived behind an impenetrable wall of choking mist within which no other but he existed. Occasionally there were the dim signals from deep within the cavern in which another man was located-so that each might grope toward the other. Yet because they did not know one another, and could not understand one another, and dared not trust one another, and felt from infancy the terrors and insecurity of that ultimate isolation - there was the hunted fear of man for man, the savage rapacity of man toward man." And the next line:
Did a second layout with a bit of a different flavor to it:

Leaving space on a layout page is more difficult than it seems, at least for me. I kept wanting to put "stuff" in the space! But self-control won and I came around with this, the 5th in my character series, Intoxication.
It represents the decision to walk toward the light, leaving behind the darkness that clouded her while she ignored her heart. She is still uncertain why she is awakening from her intoxicating sleep...and what is pulling her forward. She has not yet made friends with her inclinations toward the good, toward altruistic desires...but the first steps have been made.

I've done a couple layouts in pink lately so I went into a little "muted rose" color, as in rose colored glasses. Did 2 as I could not make up my mind which to post, each has its humble merits, I think. Hope you enjoy :)
She only felt that the candle would burn better, the packing go easier, the world be happier, if she could give and receive some human love.

Captured Wishes - for the "Captured" challenge at Mischief Circus
Throwback Thursday? Yep, a throwback to summertime...the chill is on, no reprieve expected for a few months but here's a reminder of the the verdant air to come and a note to keep wishing for what you hold dear, and don't let go...

What leaves I see!
Created for the October Creative Challenge at Mischief Circus.

Leaves brushes by Hawksmont, Tangie Baxter October grab bag
“Come, little leaves,”
Said the wind one day,
“Come over the meadows
With me, and play;
Put on your dresses
Of red and gold;
Summer is gone,
And the days grow cold.”
Soon as the leaves
Heard the wind’s loud call,
Down they came fluttering,
One and all;
Over the meadows
They danced and flew,
Singing the soft
Little songs they knew.
Dancing and flying
The little leaves went;
Winter had called them
And they were content-
Soon fast asleep
In their earthy beds,
The snow laid a soft mantle Over their heads.

There they go again…
“There they go again…just when it was all going so well”
Lily is no longer startled by her closet skeletons, baggage, dust or whatever you call it, when it starts cavorting about. It’s all clung to her so tightly and has become hard to shake, so she has come to almost expect some bogie to pop up sooner or later. She just watches cautiously until it all passes, again….

This is not a new one, but the spirit, pun intended, that inspired it always gives me a personal chuckle, so I have an affinity for the layout...
and the song is a favorite from an often overlooked creative time for the early Fleetwood Mac post Peter Green...this one was written by Danny Kirwan just before he unwillingly left the band...

Remains of the Summer Days
Haven't made many cards in a couple of months, but a friend had a birthday so I had a great reason to get myself in another creative floral mode. The flowers are from late September, giant Rudbeckia. Again, still trying out some of the newer grunge overlays.
Hey, my love, your come to me like
wine comes to the mouth
Grown tired of water all the time
You quench my heart and you
quench my mind
Celebrate we will
Because life is short but
sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
The things we cannot change

Indulgence
'Tis the season for creeping around, and this is what I came up with over the past few days: Indulgence, #3 in the character series... it went through several morphs, still having the same blocks that chain my brain, but still plugging away...
Thanx! to Xquizart for the great art doll...background is my original as is the layout, Mischief Circus for all elements
Sometimes things are connected in unexpected ways, and so it is with this tune and the challenge theme. I'm more inclined to believe the tune is coming from deeper places and so too the colors and textures of the layout, less so the obvious content or verse. So sit back and enjoy the man of the world in his hey day before his beauty was swallowed up...

Remains of the Days...
Not much left in the garden and with the temps going into the 40'sF tonight, it's almost certain that few flora and fauna will grace my place before next spring. But, this zinnia was there yesterday and the painted ladies were still there 2 days ago, well the smaller one anyway, so in the spirit of extending their memory for joy's sake, I created some photos for note cards and tried out some grunge textures recommended by Beth Conklin. I usually make my own grunge overlays, but these offer a lot more variety and nuance...love them so far!
